FAQ-Earrings

  • How to Style Silver Earrings?
Wearing silver earrings is a great way to dress up any look. Whether you’re heading to the grocery store or you’re going out for a night on the town, silver earrings can provide you with the look that you’re trying to achieve. Before you put in just any earrings, there are a few different things to be aware of.
    • Post or Dangle Earrings: The post earrings are usually a stud that will fasten to the earlobe with a backing. The dangle ones are going to slide through the ear and provide more length to hang off the earlobe. When you’re wearing your hair down, it’s often easier to wear a post. You won’t have to worry about your hair getting caught in the earring and it will be a simple way to accessorize. If you tuck your hair behind your ear, everyone will see the stud. It can be a silver ball or a variety of different graphics that have been shaped out of silver. If you’re wearing your hair up, dangle earrings can be more effective. If it’s a formal occasion, you may also want to get a little fancier with the earrings.
    • Choosing Stones to Coordinate with Your Earrings. Sometimes it’s necessary to coordinate a little more effectively. If you’re wearing red, then rubies can make a dramatic effect. If you’re wearing purple, then an amethyst stone will go nicely. You can always choose stones that are in a silver setting to help you get a little more accessory-friendly. The benefit to choosing stones within silver earrings is that they will be much more cost-effective, too. If you were to buy the same stones in a platinum or white gold setting, you would be spending a lot more money.
    • What to Wear with Silver EarringsThere’s no rule to say what you can and can’t wear with silver earrings. Based on skin tone and hair color, silver may look better on some people, however. For example, if you are very pale skinned or you have blond hair, silver earrings may not have the same effect as they do on those with a tan or dark hair. This doesn’t mean you can’t wear silver earrings, it just means that you might want to consider doing so if they have a colored stone in them. If you have multiple piercings in your ear, it can look attractive to place a stud above a dangle earring. This will add a little more sparkle to your look for the day or night. What goes well with silver? More silver. Accessorize with a silver necklace, silver bracelet and if you’re wearing a skirt and sandals, show off your legs even more by looking for a silver anklet.
  • What Jewelry Should I Pair with My Gold Earrings?
These are mainly the rules for wearing gold hoops. But, since we promised style inspiration, we have put together a list of ideas for you to try different styles with your gold hoop earrings.
    • Red lips & gold hoops for a glam-hipster look. If you are going for a hipster style, then a great idea is to try on a deep red shade of lipstick. Wear your gold hoop earrings to get a dramatic and attention-drawing look. This style goes best with casual clothes, such as jeans and a tank top, but you can also try it with a little black dress.
    • Headwrap & large hoops for a bohemian look (or gypsy style). Wear large hoops and a headwrap in neutral tones. Pair them with a nice long skirt or baggy clothes and make sure you don’t forget about the bangles. With this style, you can never have too many bangles. If you are not big on headwraps, you can always wear a wavy hairdo or try a bun using half of your hair.
    • Geometry & medium-sized hoops for a sharp, contemporary style. If you like your gold hoops with a twist, try geometrically shaped ones. This type of hoops goes great with a suit or even a leather jacket depending on your style. One of the advantages of geometrical hoops is that they are versatile. You can wear them on a daily basis or even for going out. Just remember to style your hair so that it compliments your beautiful earrings.
    • Tiny gold hoop earrings for a romantic and classic look. The great thing about tiny hoop earrings is that you can match them with almost any outfit. You can also wear them anytime and you will still look fabulous. If you are going for a discreet timeless look, then a pair of delicate gold hoops should never miss from your wardrobe.
    • Hoop-drop earrings for a trendy minimalist style. Get a pair of asymmetrical hoop earrings, a simple and elegant one-shoulder dress and a straight hairdo and you have the recipe for a stylish and feminine look. When wearing hoop-drop earrings make sure that you pair them with simple and elegant clothes.
    • Cartilage hoops & large gold hoop earrings for an inventive look. Who says you have to wear a single pair of hoops? Play with your style and try cartilage earrings with large hoops to get an artistic effect. Your clothes need to have clean, simple lines and your hair will look gorgeous in an elegant, simple updo.
  • How to Fix or Replace Earring Wires?
The wire is fairly thin and can break off or get bent out of shape easily. In some cases, people just don’t like the wire loop and want to replace it with a post or some type of fastener for non-pierced ears. To change the earring wire or finding, the decorative part of the earring should be attached by a loop or jump ring.
    • Find the opening of the loop and open it far enough to slip off the ornament. Never open it in a “C” shape as this could weaken the wire.
    • Take off the ornament and attach it to the new earring finding.
    • Close the loop
  • How to Glue Earring Posts?
If you are not comfortable or confident enough to try using a soldering gun or iron, you can glue your post back onto the earring. This holds very well, especially if you use the right type of glue. Epoxy is a great all-purpose adhesive. It’s heavy-duty and works well for jewelry making, bonding gemstones and metal findings. Epoxy 220 is considered one of the most powerful glues in jewelry making and repair. It is also perfect for other projects like general crafts and keeping hobby parts together.
    • Carefully clasp the earring in the vice or hold it between your fingers.
    • Using your magnifier, locate the exact point you want the post to be attached.
    • Add a dab of glue to this spot.
    • Holding the post with your pliers or tweezers, very gently and carefully place the post on the dab of glue.
    • Let it sit for about an hour. Both adhesives are quick-drying, but you don’t want to move it around until you are very sure the glue is set and will hold.
  • How to Solder Earring Posts?
Most jewelry repair kits don’t come with a soldering gun or soldering iron, so you would have to buy one separately. Both are very simple to use and might come in handy in the future! Especially if you plan to do a lot of jewelry repair or jewelry making. To solder the post back on, here’s what you do:
    • Carefully place the earring in a small vice.
    • Use needle-nose pliers to hold the post.
    • Apply the solder to the gun and gently put the two pieces together.
    • Be careful not to use too much solder wire. This will ruin the look and be very uncomfortable to wear.
  • How to Clean New Earrings?
The cleaning tips beneath can be utilized on most new studs or for general hoop upkeep. Follow these means to figure out how to clean your hoops appropriately:
    • Wash hands thoroughly.
    • Find a small glass or plastic container and place the earrings inside.
    • Create your own earring cleaner by filling the container halfway with hydrogen peroxide and let sit for twenty minutes, or overnight if they are heavily soiled.
    • Remove the earrings from the solution and use a small jewelry brush to remove any leftover grime.
    • Rinse earrings carefully under warm water and place them on a clean cloth to dry.
    • If the unthinkable should happen and you drop one or more of your earrings down the drain, call your local Mr. Rooter for fast, reliable plumbing services to retrieve it.
  • How to Clean Earrings with Gemstones?
Gemstone earrings featuring diamonds, sapphires or other expensive gemstones require special care. Learn how to clean earrings with gemstones properly in these seven steps:
    • Make an earring cleaner solution of one-quarter cup of ammonia and one cup of water.
    • Place the earrings in the solution and let sit for 20 minutes.
    • While they soak, prepare another bowl with warm water and a half-teaspoon of liquid dish soap.
    • Wear rubber gloves to protect hands, and remove the earrings from the ammonia solution, placing them into the soapy mixture.
    • Swirl earrings gently to rinse and remove.
    • Use a jewelry brush to remove leftover grime.
    • Rinse thoroughly in a bowl of clean water and place on a clean cloth to dry.
  • What to do when an ear grows over the back of an earring?
Getting your ears pierced can be a milestone event in your life. Unfortunately, earrings can sometimes become embedded in the ear, either because the ear gets infected and swollen, the earring clasp is too small or the earring is put on too tightly.
    • Earring Clasp Is Partially Embedded. You may be able to remove an embedded earring at home if the ear shows no signs of infection such as redness or swelling, and if the earring is only partially embedded in the ear. Try numbing the earlobe with ice first to reduce pain. You don't want an infection to develop, so use rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to clean your ear before you touch it, and be sure to wash your hands.
    • Earring Clasp Is Totally Embedded or the Ear is Infected. If the earring clasp is totally embedded within the ear—you cannot see the clasp at all—you need to visit a doctor to have the earring removed. Call your doctor as soon as you notice the earring is embedded: Waiting too long can cause an infection. The doctor will usually apply a local anesthetic and will then be able to push or cut out the earrings.
    • After-Care. After removing an embedded earring, you need to watch for signs of infection. If you had the earring removed by a doctor, the doctor will probably prescribe an antibiotic. If you were able to remove the earring yourself, apply an antibiotic cream regularly. If you see any signs of infection, call your doctor.
